About Mark Twain Birthplace State Historic Site
1835 marks the year Samuel Langhorne Clemens was born in the small cabin now enclosed within this site's museum building. Inside, visitors can view a public reading room, a selection of his first editions, a manuscript he wrote by hand of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, and pieces of furniture brought from his home in Connecticut. The structure sits on a peninsula bordering the western edge of Mark Twain Lake, next to Mark Twain State Park, and has been recognized on the National Register of Historic Places since 1969.
Hours, fees, camping, reservations and closures are set by the park and change often. Check the official park site before you go.
