Dow Lake, an artificial lake covering 161 acres, sits within the park's 2,606 acres of land spanning Canaan and Ames Townships. The park's boundaries touch the city limits of Athens in several places. It takes its name from William Stroud, a share-holder in the Ohio Company of Associates.
