About Redcliffe Plantation State Historic Site
Built by the Hammond family starting in 1859, the plantation house at the center of this site holds artifacts spanning four generations of the family through 1975. The 369-acre grounds also preserve two slave cabins dating to around 1857, which interpret the lives of the roughly 300 people Hammond enslaved across his various plantations. The house and cabins together document both the family's domestic life and the enslaved community forced to sustain it.
