About Rivers Bridge State Park

General William T. Sherman's army fought Confederate troops here for two days as it advanced from Savannah, eventually outflanking the defenders and forcing their withdrawal. The grounds preserve that Civil War battle site and were entered into the National Register of Historic Places on February 23, 1972. What visitors find here centers on this military history rather than natural features described elsewhere.
