About Barnwell State Park
Civilian Conservation Corps workers built this park, one of 16 the CCC completed across South Carolina, on land bought from local landowners in 1937. A number of the structures the crews put up are still standing and still serve visitors today. Anyone deciding whether to go can expect a landscape shaped by that Depression-era construction, with the original CCC buildings remaining part of the park's character.
