About Rose Hill Plantation State Historic Site

A restored home built for William H. Gist stands at the center of the grounds, preserved to reflect his time as South Carolina's 68th governor. Gist held office in the years leading to the Civil War and pushed for the Secession Convention that produced the state's Ordinance of Secession. The buildings and land here document that political history and his residence on the property.
