About Lake Wateree State Recreation Area
Desportes Island, surrounded by Lake Wateree, forms the ground this recreation area sits on, covering 238 acres. The state acquired the land in 1984, and the grounds hold 100 camping sites, picnic pads, and a tackle shop with boat refueling. A 2-mile nature trail runs through the property for those wanting to explore beyond the shoreline.
