About Harpeth River State Park

A hand-dug tunnel through solid rock, built by Montgomery Bell to power an early ironworks, anchors this stretch of protected land along the lower Harpeth River. The park links several separate sites rather than forming one continuous tract, spanning the Narrows of the Harpeth, the Mound Bottom and Mace Bluff archaeological sites, the Newsom's Mill ruins, the Gossett Tract natural area, and a portion of Hidden Lakes. It crosses both Cheatham and Davidson counties.
