About Palmetto State Park

Dwarf palmetto plants growing abundantly along the San Marcos River bottomland gave this 270.3-acre park its name. Established in 1936, it is managed by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and sits northwest of Gonzales and southeast of Luling. The site protects this pocket of palmetto habitat, an unusual plant community for this part of the state.
