About Breaks Interstate Park

Pine Mountain's northeastern end holds a canyon carved by the Russell Fork, sitting inside the Jefferson National Forest and straddling the Kentucky-Virginia line. Rather than falling under a single agency, the grounds are run through a joint agreement between the two states, one of only two such shared arrangements among American state parks. Day-to-day partnership duties are split between Virginia's Department of Conservation and Recreation and Kentucky's Department of Parks.
