A brick house built for former Virginia Attorney General Rufus A. Ayers stands at the center of this park, which operates as a museum focused on the history of the commonwealth's southwestern region. Charles A. Johnson designed the structure, with construction starting in 1888 and finishing in 1895. The property became a state park in 1946, preserving the residence as its main feature.
