About Steptoe Butte State Park
A quartzite butte rises 3,612 feet above the surrounding loess hills of the Palouse, forming an island of rock amid the farmland. The 150-acre site preserves this formation as a heritage site, offering views over the surrounding agricultural landscape from its summit. The park's elevation and geology are the product of the butte's resistance to the erosion that shaped the loess plains around it.
