About Hawks Nest State Park

370 acres of clifftop land here look down onto the New River from roughly 750 feet up, with a vista visible from a lookout along U.S. Route 60. Beneath the surrounding terrain, near Gauley Mountain, runs the tunnel built for a hydroelectric project, the site of a fatal Depression-era construction disaster. The overlook and the tunnel's history are the two things this ground holds.
