About Whitefish Dunes State Park

Eight successive prehistoric Native American villages once stood on this ground, their remains now listed on the National Register of Historic Places as the Whitefish Dunes-Bay View Site. The 867-acre park protects the largest sand dunes found along the western shore of Lake Michigan and operates as a day-use site along the eastern edge of the Door Peninsula. Cave Point County Park sits enclosed within its boundaries, and a shoreline trail links the two, giving foot access between them at no cost.
