About Herman Davis State Park
A grassy one-acre plot holds the grave and memorial of Herman Davis, a Manila-born U.S. Army sniper credited with taking out a nest of German machine gunners in World War I. A concrete walk leads to a 25-foot granite obelisk fronted by a full-size granite statue of Davis in his infantry uniform, with his remains buried just behind it. General John J. Pershing later ranked Davis fourth on a list of 100 war heroes.
