About Historic Washington State Park

Fifty-four buildings make up the museum village on this 101-acre grounds, preserving pioneer artifacts from the old settlement of Washington. The town grew into a trading stop along the Southwest Trail before becoming county seat, then served as the Arkansas state capital from 1863 to 1865 after Little Rock fell under Civil War threat. Guided walking tours cover the structures, and the original town plat was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972.
