About Humboldt Redwoods State Park
Save the Redwoods League assembled this land in 1921, buying much of it from the Pacific Lumber Company to keep the trees from being cut. What resulted is the Rockefeller Forest, the largest stretch of old-growth coast redwoods left standing anywhere. The protected area has since grown through further gifts and purchases to 51,651 acres, making it the third-largest park in the California State Park system, and part of its old growth is recognized by the Old-Growth Forest Network.
