About Brainard Homestead State Park

Twenty-five acres of undeveloped land make up this park, once the site of a farmhouse built by Timothy Green in 1842 and later purchased by Selden Tyler Brainerd in 1854. Ownership passed to Geraldine W. Hayden and then, on her death in 1929, to the State of Connecticut, on condition that William Brainerd could use the property until his own death in 1936, after which the buildings were dismantled. Bird watching, sports fields and hiking are noted as offerings, though as of 2012 the fields were being farmed and no established trails existed.
