About Franklin Creek State Natural Area
Dedication as a nature preserve came in 1982, when it became the 24th site in Illinois to receive that designation. The natural area spans 882 acres of protected land along the creek from which it takes its name. That preserve status reflects a formal recognition of the land's natural character, set aside for conservation rather than general recreation.
