About Lowden State Park

A statue called The Eternal Indian, created by sculptor Lorado Taft, stands within the grounds, giving the park its most recognizable landmark. The land covers 207 acres and takes its name from Frank Orren Lowden, who served as Illinois governor from 1917 to 1921. In 2008, budget cuts led to a brief closure of the park along with eleven others in the state system.
