About Morrison-Rockwood State Park
Lake Carlton anchors the park, a watershed impoundment created in 1969 when an earthen dam 38 feet high and 1,800 feet long was built across a tributary of Rock Creek. The park spans 1,164 acres and takes its name from that creek and the densely wooded "Rockwood" area surrounding it. The lake itself was named for L. Carlton Anderson, a local civic and conservation leader who worked to establish the park, which opened for day use in 1971.
