About Mississippi Palisades State Park

Limestone cliffs and caves line the Mississippi River here, rising near the spot where the Apple River joins it. The park protects part of a larger formation called the Mississippi Palisades, recognized as a National Natural Landmark, within the Driftless Area of far northwestern Illinois, a region left uncovered by the last glaciers. Its bluffs and cave-riddled rock overlook the river below.
