About Rockport State Recreation Area
4,237 acres of former limestone quarry land line the Lake Huron shoreline here, with exposed rock formations still visible from the old operations. A deep water boat launch handles craft of any size, and the shoreline sits along the Lake Huron Flyway, where conditions are monitored to track the health of the lake and its coastal environment. Offshore, within the Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary, divers can find shipwrecks including the Portland and the Portsmouth.
