About Thompson's Harbor State Park
Undeveloped land bordering Lake Huron was set aside to protect 5,109 acres of shoreline that remain largely free of development, including seven and a half miles of coast where second growth forest, limestone cobble beaches, and sand dunes meet. The ground supports a large population of dwarf lake iris along with more than one hundred bird species, coyotes, deer, and black bear. Six miles of trails serve hikers and cross-country skiers, rustic cabins are available, and the shoreline allows for sea kayaking. In 2016 the park was designated a dark sky preserve.
