About Great River Bluffs State Park

Formerly called O.L. Kipp State Park, it was given a new name in the late 1990s to better reflect what it protects. The park covers steep-sided bluffs that climb 500 feet above the Mississippi River, along with the narrow valleys between them that hold rare and fragile plant communities. Two of these bluffs, known as King's and Queen's Bluff, carry additional protection under Minnesota's Scientific and Natural Areas program.
