About Current River State Park

Rustic buildings once used as a corporate retreat still stand on this 839-acre property along the Current River, remnants of the Alton Club run by the Alton Box Board Company of Alton, Illinois, in the 1930s and 1940s. Those structures were added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2005. The park occupies land and buildings in Newton Township along the riverbank, preserving that retreat-era architecture within its acreage.
