About Walker River State Recreation Area
The East Walker River runs through this 12,300-acre unit made up of four former ranch properties. Nevada dedicated the recreation area in September 2018, making it among the newest additions to the state park system. The Walker Basin Conservancy handed the land back to the state in 2017 after acquiring the water rights, and the nonprofit continues to oversee stewardship of the property, work tied to its broader effort to restore Walker Lake.
