About Oconee Station State Historic Site
A stone blockhouse built in 1792 stands here as one of the last outposts on South Carolina's frontier, garrisoned by troops until they withdrew in 1799. Alongside it sits the Williams Richards House, an early 19th century residence and trading post that later joined the blockhouse under one property. Both structures were together listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1971 under the name Oconee Station and Richards House.
