About Gorges State Park

Jocassee Gorges land, spanning 7,709 acres, was bought from Duke Energy Corporation when the park was created, making it the westernmost state park in North Carolina. It borders Pisgah National Forest and the Toxaway Game Land managed by the state's wildlife commission, and it serves as the main entry point to the Horsepasture River within this network of public lands. Together with neighboring protected tracts, it forms part of a conservation corridor exceeding 100,000 acres that runs roughly 80 miles along the North Carolina and South Carolina border.
