About Johnsonville State Historic Park
Earthworks and ground once fought over during the Battle of Johnsonville in 1864 make up the core of this 1,075-acre site, set at the spot where the Civil War clash unfolded along the Tennessee River. The park also marks the location of the original town of Johnsonville, which was submerged when the Tennessee Valley Authority created Kentucky Lake in the 1940s. Together the battlefield remains and the flooded town site preserve both a wartime event and a community that no longer exists on dry land.
