About Big Cypress Tree State Park
A bald cypress tree once standing on these grounds gave the park its name, having reached roughly 1,350 years of age before lightning killed it in 1976. The park was set aside to protect the site where that tree grew, preserving the ground associated with a specimen far older than most trees found in the region.
