About Lake Charles State Park

A 645-acre artificial lake covers far more ground than the 140-acre park surrounding it, having been built starting in 1964 through a partnership of four agencies to control flooding and protect the watershed along the Black River. The park sits in the Ozarks just north of Shirey Bay Rainey Brake Wildlife Management Area and was dedicated in 1967 once the lake project was complete.

Hours, fees, camping, reservations and closures are set by the park and change often. Check the official park site before you go.
