About Big Basin Redwoods State Park

Protection here centers on a stretch of old-growth forest recognized by the Old-Growth Forest Network. The park holds nearly the entire Waddell Creek watershed, a bowl-shaped depression formed by seismic uplift of its rim and then carved out over time by numerous streams cutting through its center. That geologic shaping is what defines the terrain visitors move through.
