About Silver Sands State Park

A sandbar exposed at low tide connects the mainland beach to Charles Island, a 14-acre bird sanctuary that anchors this 297-acre park along Long Island Sound. The land includes dunes, restored salt marsh, open fields and woods, with boardwalks and trails crossing the property. Visitors can swim, picnic, and watch birds, and the grounds are managed by the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.
