About Caesars Head State Park

A granitic gneiss outcrop rises to 3,208 feet on the Blue Ridge Escarpment, standing roughly 2,000 feet above the Piedmont below and ranking among the highest points in the surrounding mountains. The rock formation gives the park its name, though the origin of "Caesars Head" is disputed, with one account tracing it to an early mountaineer's dog. The park borders Transylvania County, North Carolina, and is reached via US 276. It is administered jointly with Jones Gap State Park as part of the Mountain Bridge Wilderness.
