About Poinsett State Park
Mountain laurels draped in Spanish moss grow alongside plants from four distinct regions here, mixing species from the Blue Ridge foothills, the Piedmont, the sandy xeric Sandhills, and the coastal plain in one place. The park takes its name from Joel Roberts Poinsett, a former Secretary of War and the first American ambassador to Mexico, credited with popularizing the poinsettia. Surrounded by Manchester State Forest, it connects to the Palmetto Trail and to linked hiking and mountain bike routes, while the surrounding forest also holds marked equestrian trails.
