About Fort Mountain State Park

An 885-foot rock wall running along the mountain's peak gave this park its name, though its builders remain unidentified and its purpose is debated, with a National Register nomination describing it as more of a boundary marker separating the north peak from the southern end than a defensive structure. The park spans 3,712 acres atop Fort Mountain and was established in 1938.
